Premium & luxury · Electric sports saloon and grand tourer

Porsche Taycan

Taycan RWD · MY2027

An exceptionally accomplished electric grand tourer with sports-car steering, strong motorway comfort and very fast 800-volt charging; high purchase and option costs, a wide body and modest rear packaging limit its everyday value.

Full review

What it is like to live with

EV Guide desk assessment, not a first-hand road test. This entry covers the MY2027 Portuguese rear-wheel-drive Taycan saloon with the standard Performance Battery, not the Taycan 4, Black Edition, 4S, GTS, Turbo, Turbo S, Turbo GT, Sport Turismo or Cross Turismo. Porsche Portugal supplies the current price, 520–609 km WLTP range, 300 kW output, acceleration and charging context. Auto Express's July 2026 European review praises the handling, performance, range and long-distance comfort while noting the small boot, option costs and weak residual values. Top Gear's refreshed-model review likewise values the steering, quality, efficiency and charging but finds rear space limited and acknowledges the car's weight. UK prices and ratings do not apply in Portugal. EV Guide imports no external score.

What works

Outstanding steering, body control and high-speed refinement

Long official range and an ideal 18-minute rapid-charge stop

High-quality cabin and useful front luggage compartment

What irritates

Very high Portuguese purchase price and costly options

Wide body and low seating position are awkward in older garages

Rear seats and 407-litre boot are less practical than large premium EVs

Family + dog

Four-seat GT, not a dog-first family EV

The rear seats can handle occasional family use, but the low roof and 407-litre saloon boot are poor matches for a large dog crate. The 84-litre frunk usefully separates charging cables.

Trips + camping

Exceptional road-trip charging, limited camping utility

Up to 609 km WLTP, strong motorway refinement and an ideal 18-minute 10–80% stop make this a superb European GT. The low saloon body and separate boot make sleeping inside or carrying bulky camping gear less practical.

City + daily life · 3.3/5

Effortless drivetrain, demanding footprint

Smooth rear-wheel-drive response and cameras help in town, but a 4.96-metre length, 1.966-metre width and low seating position demand careful checks of older Portuguese garages and narrow streets.

Cargo · 3.3/5

Two useful luggage areas, not a cargo specialist

The 407-litre rear boot and 84-litre frunk suit touring bags and cables. A saloon opening and fixed packaging are less flexible than a hatchback or SUV for samples and bulky equipment.

Taxi + high mileage · 3.6/5

Premium transfer appeal at a premium cost

Refinement, range and charging speed suit executive intercity work, but four-seat packaging, the smaller boot and €108,016 starting price make the operating case highly specialised. Model depreciation, insurance and charging against the actual duty cycle.

Details worth knowing

Three useful fun facts

  1. 01

A two-speed gearbox on the rear axle supports both acceleration and efficient high-speed cruising.

  2. 02

Its 800-volt system can complete the ideal 10–80% stop in 18 minutes.

  3. 03

The 84-litre front compartment keeps charging cables separate from the 407-litre rear boot.

MotorTrend

MY2027 Taycan first drive assesses E-Shift, faster software and range changes

MotorTrend’s German first drive examines the MY2027 Taycan’s faster MIB4 infotainment system, optional E-Shift simulated gear changes and new low-rolling-resistance tyres that can lift the European range ceiling to 700 km on selected versions. The driving impressions come mainly from a pre-production GTS, while the track section concerns the Turbo GT Manthey; neither is the rear-drive Portuguese catalog version. The shared software and model-year context are relevant, but U.S. availability, pricing and equipment claims should not be transferred to Portugal. The article compares E-Shift with the simulated transmission in the IONIQ 5 N, not the standard IONIQ 5 trims listed by EV Guide.

Report says Porsche may end Taycan production by 2030; company gives no confirmation

Reuters reports that WirtschaftsWoche cited unnamed sources saying Porsche plans to end Taycan production by 2030 and has dropped a proposed transfer to Leipzig. Porsche declined to confirm the report and pointed to its CEO's July statement that there were no short-term plans to discontinue the Taycan. The report does not affect the MY2027 Taycan currently listed in Portugal.
